Each of the 4 Great Samurais of old goes on a journey to the top of the warrior's spirit and face battles, trials, and tribulations across multiple worlds. In the mundane, Kusunoki Masashige gets the news that his brother is dead and that he was betrayed by his former allies and master. Before he can make a decision on whether or not to follow his brother's path, bandits attack the village and Masashige is forced to break out of his shell. He decided to set out on a journey to become a warrior because of the weight of his brother's sacrifice and his desire for redemption. Tomoe Gozen wakes up in the Underworld. She is considered an impure soul due to her prowess in battle and the many heads of men she has claimed. She is given a chance to redeem her karma by defeating 8,000 Great demons in the Underworld, a thousand for every circle of Hell. Miyamoto Musashi is neither dead nor alive. The boundary between the supernatural and the mundane is guarded by him. Musashi is the guardian of the Otherworld, he maintains the boundary, guides souls in limbo, and keeps evil beings in line. Sanada Yukimura is referred to as the Warrior of the Gods. He is sent on different missions by the gods to protect the gates of Heaven. The four warriors sometimes overlap in the overarching branches of the cycle.
